www Proxy Setup

Hi guys,

I've been searching for software that can enable me to limit the websites that our users visit to up our production.

Everywhere I go, WinGate was the answer. I've downloaded WinGate and using the trial before I buy.

Can anyone please tell me how to create a proxy to only allow certain websites to be accessed from my LAN?

On the same server that runs WinGate I have MDaemon installed which is my mail server. If I start limiting domains, will this affect my users' ability to download their emails from my server?

I am new to proxies so please be patient.

I have a new problem now though. I have MDaemon installed to manage my emails. Since I installed WinGATE, my Mdaemon has stopped working properly. PPL on my local LAN send mail via MDaemon. They send their mail to MDaemon and then MDaemon is unable to send them. Where can I unblock MDaemon in WinGATE and why does it block my email server software?

Hi Stephan,

Is MDaemon installed on the same machine as WinGate? WinGate has a built-in email server so there will be a service port conflict if you haven't stopped the WinGate email services. You can do this from the system tab in GateKeeper by setting the service startup type to disabled in the mail services (IMAP, POP3 and SMTP).

If you have the MDaemon server on a different machine then you can set up the WinGate email server to pass on mail to the MDaemon server. The advantage of a setup like this is that you get the AntiVirus scanning in WinGate (if you have KAV installed) before it reaches your main mail server.
