Authentication Issues

Postby christianmetz » Jan 24 08 11:41 am

I am currently running the trial version of WinGate before we buy and I have some questions.

Here is a little background. We are running a Win2k3 domain, and I have WinGate installed on its own server. DNS / DHCP are disabled on WinGate as I get these through my DC. I am also using the Windows Operating System Authentication since we have Active Directory. Thus far, I have set up the system for NAT and am only running my computer through the WinGate. I have done this just by changing my gateway to the IP of the WinGate server. Here is my question...

1. Per the recommendation of the WinGate tech, I have decided to go with NAT authentication. However when I log onto my computer using my Windows credentials, WinGate sees me as "Guest". Due to this problem, I cant use my internet at all unless I bypass WinGate altogether. Seeing as how we do NOT want to install the WGIC program on all our systems here, can I properly authenticate through NAT?

Here is what we would like to accomplish overall.

1. Logging of user internet activity based on Active Directory group or user
2. Ability to block certain administrator defined websites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try using the QbikAuth tool on your client computers. It's a client applet that connects to the Remote Control Service in WinGate to authenticate. You will need to bind your RCS to your local network adaptor so that the QbikAuth applets can connect to it.
