are there any plans to implement Universal Plug-and-Play and VoIP support technologies in Wingate any time soon? would certainly make life a lot more easier!

Both of these technologies have been looked at, and at some stage will probably be implemented in WinGate. At present we don't have a specific time frame for this. UPnP shouldn't be too hard, however there are some security implications with this.

VOIP

Postby vanguard » Dec 23 03 6:03 pm

Dear Sir/Mdm,

We are trying to allow VOIP through our wingate (Ver 4.0) and is facing some problems. The VOIP solution that we have uses UDP2000 for signaling and UDP 4000 for voice packets.

We have set up the VOIP device and it was able to communicate with another VOIP device in the public internet but after every 1min (or less) the voice communication gets terminated. We have tried the VOIP solution with other types of NAT and there was no problem.

Can you tell me if the Wingate NAT could have caused the problem and how we can possibly resolve the problem. Are there some settings we can do?

Regards,

The first (and most ideal) solution would be to see if your VOIP supports some form of Keep Alive. You can browse the product documentation for this. If it does, turning that on should resolve the problem.

The second alternative is to go into the Extended Networking properties, go to the Port Security tab and see if there is an entry for UDP ports 2000 and 4000. If there are, you should be able to specify the kind of time-out values you want. Try it initially with a Custom Timeout, of around 5 minutes (Values are entered in seconds).
