Ausumed users by computer name

Postby Mainstream » Mar 03 08 9:59 am

I've been trying to get this to work for a while now: I can't get wingate to assume users by their computer name. At the moment it does it by IP, but becuase all our IPs (except printers and servers) are dynamic this isn't the best way to do it.

Whenever I set wingate to assume by computer name it sets the name of the user to guest. I've tryed it on it's own , as a fully qualifyed name with the domain (computer.mainstream.co.nz), semi-qualifyed using wild cards (computer.*), upper and lower case. Nothing seems to work except the IP.

Can aynone piont me in the right direction to find out how to do this?

To assume users by computer name, WinGate must be the DHCP Server for your client computers. If your clients are getting DHCP from a different server, or have their network adaptors manually set, assumptions by computer name won't work.

You can't piont it to the DNS server where it could resolve names into IP addresses? Does this strike anyone else as odd?

Hi!...

If you've your wingate machine as the domain member server of the Active Directory and you're using DNS, WINs and DHCP your wingate should be able to resovle Computer Names against their IPs.

I've the same setup as I'm using DHCP, DNS and WINS from my member server and not from wingate and my wingate is able to list computer names in the activtity windows instead of their IPs.
