DHCP Issue

Postby tj » Mar 05 08 2:14 pm

Hi guys,

We have a 4 client computers and a WinGate computer as a server, We assigned an ip address manually i.e. 192.168.0.1 in one of the NIC on WinGate computer, the 3 Client computers uses obtain the ip address automatically, therefore we had 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4, but we get into problem because we had two 192.168.0.3. We renew the ip of the other 192.168.0.3, but still it won't allow us to renew. So therefore I manually set a static ip address to the one that has 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.5.

We also checked in the DHCP Service properties -> DHCP Setting -> Scope Properties about the allocated IP addresses in the range from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254, it's network mask is 255.255.255.0 and it's Lease duration is 60 days - 0 hours & 0 minutes. And the scope is enabled.

What causes that problem?

Thanks. -Frederick/tj

It would pay to check the registry settings to find out all the DHCP scopes that currently exist or have existed in the past. On rare occasions, WinGate can end up refering to old scopes, causing problems with DHCP clients.

Start -> Run -> regedit -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate\Services\DHCP Service\Database\Scopes

Check that there aren't two scopes for the same interface or IP range. If you need to delete any unneccesary scopes, make sure you stop the WinGate engine first.
