Port Security, External UDP

Postby beginner19 » Apr 27 08 12:01 am

Hello, I installed Wingate 6.2.2 trial version and have got a small question about UDP ports. When I set up firewall on any level, including Custom I'm not able to connect to internet at all. Instead in firewall logs I can see it's blocking connection from outside. Only if I allow the external UDP ports

Security for: External UDP
Action: Allow Port: 1024 - 4096 - External

I can browse the internet. Now the question is - if that is secure to leave this ports open or is there any other way to get it working?

It sounds like WinGate has detected your internal private network as an external public network and firewalled connections from your clients. This can happen if you use a public IP range for your internal network. If this is the case, you can either manually specify your local network as Internal (Private) or you can change your local IP range to an Private IP range so that WinGate will not firewall your client computers.

I have included an image below that shows you where to check and change your Internal/External settings.

No, I have specified both NIC's and they are correct. They actually both use private addresses because I'm testing the Wingate on network based on Virtual PC. Anyway when I have installed it in real environment the problem disappeared. Thank you for your assistance!
