Cannot Download Updates

Postby rboynton » May 17 08 1:03 am

When I try and run Adobe Reader Updates, the download manager sits there and never gets anything. I see in the Wingate log that the connection exists. It can sit there for a long time before timing out.

If I copy the URL to the clipboard and paste it into the proxy's browser, I get an instant save dialog and I can get the file that way. I've since found this problem exists for other downloads as well.

Any ideas?

Adobe updates have been a problem because of the way Adobe does the file transfer.

Are you using Puresight or KAV?

Yes, we use Puresight. As I said, the problem is not only Adobe but other downloads as well. This includes the recent XP SP3 download from Microsoft's download server. Never could get it from Windows update. Had to put the URL into the proxy's browser and got it straightway.

Thank you, labull. I'll give that a shot. Though I understand why an exclusion is needed, it is very impractical. Conceivably I would need to enter an exclusion for each site that I need to download from, or at least the site that I have problems getting downloads from? Wonder if the new version will have a more robust ability.

We find that there are only a few sites that are a problem and we add them as needed. I don't know where you are in your PureSight subscription but if it's near the end you might consider OpenDNS as an alternative.
