New WinGate install not working

Postby TWBit » Sep 27 08 8:27 am

A brief background - I have a very very old computer running ISA 2000, which could die any day now. So I am looking to replace it with WinGate on a new computer and at the same time, move to a new T1 we have. The network configuration is pretty simple - about 70 computers on AD, using DHCP.

So I set up a new machine and it is running fine, I can browse through the ISA server. I installed WinGate (no security or restrictions yet) and when I set the default gateway on the external IP (no gateway on the internal, and also had to clear the 'Automatically detect settings' in IE LAN Settings), it browses out and is on the new T1 (as evidenced by speed and whatsmyipaddress.com). Also opened port 21 in Extended Network Driver to allow incoming FTP requests, which works fine.

But setting up the clients is the problem. I switched to a static IP, set the default gateway to the WinGate box's internal IP and cleared the IE setting, but I can't browse. Nothing shows up in the Gatekeeper's history. I can ping the WinGate box. Nothing is listed in Gatekeeper's History.

Any direction would be helpful.

Under users, system policies, do you have the everyone account set up with access rights?

Also, check this FAQ it could be the network designation, // Internal - External NICS in the Wingate machine.

Ok, thanks. I started messing with groups & permissions and thought I had reset everything but must have missed this. All is working for the time being, so now I will start testing it....
