Annoying passwords

Postby gvdm » Oct 15 08 3:27 am

Hi Everyone,

I have winG 6.2.2 on a win2k3 sp2 server with one nic. I can get it to auth people with my groups made in ad and groups made in winG.
I have changed my DHCP's GW to show to the winG server's IP so that i dont have to do proxy in IE.

Problem is it keeps asking users for username and password even if they say remember password tick box. It reads all my users from AD.

Why would it auth a user and then 10min later ask them again for credentials? This defies the whole idea of "transparent" proxy unless i dont get the idea?
I have groups for "full" internet and "restricted" internet and would like to keep them instead of the everyone group with authentication.

Can you please help me regarding this, and how to fix it.

Can i also please be part of the wingate 2008 beta testers as my installation is fairly new and i wont mind beta'ing for you. Please contact me.

Thanks
G

Hi

the problem with using authentication with intercepted connections is that each time the browser thinks it is connecting to a new site, it won't use cached credentials the user just entered. This is because it assumes the credentials for one site won't work on another site.

If you want to use authentication at the proxy, the recommended method is to configure the clients to use a proxy, rather than intercepting the connection. This can be done over an active directory using group policy, so you don't need to go around all the machines.

The other option is to configure internet explorer (other browsers behave differently) to automatically use local credentials.

Hi Adrien,

Ok that will work with GPO. Do i need to change my DHCP to point back to my router as GW or should this stay to the wingate server? Will my different groups in AD with different access rights still work when using proxy settings in IE or other browsers?

Hi

should be no need to change DHCP settings for gateway.

Also it shouldn't affect group privileges etc - it's just a different way of the client making requests. The advantages are mainly that the client then knows it's talking to a proxy server.
