Network Trafic hange after Ip Address duplicate?

Postby stlony » Nov 06 08 12:00 am

Hello Wingate Team,
I had a problem not related to wingate but i try to find a solution to it with wingate.
Somebody or some Viruses try to take the same server ip address in the clients machines so i had the normal ip duplicate tool tip messeage. then all network trafic stoped at the server untill i restart the server manually. So my question is if i give the server two ip addresses and make wingate server binding to the two addresses at all important services and make also 2 gateways to the client in DHCP service will wingate bind well with the second ip address of the wingate server to all the client when the first one have been attacked??

I hope you understand well what i want to say
Thanks alot

Although I don't put much faith in Windows ability to detect dead gateways and failover, setting up a second local IP address on the WinGate computer and assigning both IP's to your clients through DHCP is a possible work around. Note that if you have any proxy or mail settings on the client computers that point to one of WinGate's IP addresses, these will still fail if the specified adaptor fails. Only NAT traffic will be able to fail over.

To solve the problem definitely, I would be inclined to find the person/computer responsible for claiming the servers IP address and nip the problem in the butt. If it is a virus that has gotten into the network, it would be wise to eradicate the virus from the network and review your networks anti-virus scanning requirements as well.

If you are using Active Directory to manage the computers and users in your network, you could employ a policy to remove the users right to change the software or IP assignments on their computer.
