Internet Sharing Trouble

Postby Sedu Muwanga » Nov 15 08 3:27 am

I have a dial up connection I am trying to share on my LAN, the gateway is on a windows XP operating system and the client is on windows Vista operating system, the wingate server side works fine and dials up my connection perfectly and can browse without any problems.

I have tried very many options of getting the internet to work on the client machine in vain, the connection is fine and it can get IP address from the XP gateway hosting wingate but when the client application is launched the message "cannot locate any servers at this time" comes when a search for proxy servers is initiated

Please advise

Hi,

When you set the Browser on the client to use a 'Direct Connection' does it work then?

Also, can you ping webservers on the client? [must have NAT // ENS installed in the Wingate machine].

Eg: ping ato.gov.au from a command window.

Also have a look at the KB here http://support.qbik.com/index.php

The Vista machine shouldn't be trying to search for a proxy server.

It should be directly configured to use a proxy, or use the default gateway of the WinGate computer. WinGate doesn't support proxy auto detection with the mechanism that Vista uses (DHCP). It supports a previous DNS-based version.
