SMTP Server log problem

Dear Wingate support,

I have Wingate 6.2.2 (Build 1137) installed.
Recently, I noticed that the disk space used by Wingate was getting too big.
So I discovered that the SMTP Server Log files was the problem.
There is an error message that appears many times "Error: could not open message file <number> error 2 - retrying" and the log files are getting 30 Mb per day.
The file <number> can be found in the Mail\spool\dead directory.
Deleting it solves the problem, but it is happening at least 3 times a week and now I need to stay monitoring the SMTP Server Log file.

Could you help me ??

Hi,

Any antivirus resident on the server?

If it is try to have it exclude the Wingate Directory.

1. Can you turn on debug logging for the SMTP Server and then send in the debug log file when this error happens again. Turn off debug logging afterwards, as it uses alot of harddrive space. (you can send this to support at qbik dot com)

2. As Nev mentioned, the most common reason for this to happen is if there is a third party program scanning the WinGate folder. There is alot of files changing/moving in real time in there.

3. How is your hard drive space looking? Is there plenty of free space on the drive where WinGate and the logfiles are located?

4. Are there any obvious problems in the Windows Event Viewer?

By any chance did you re-install Wingate or import an earlier registry file?

This can put the SMTPUID right out of whack and 'saved messages' becomes a bit of a disaster.

I have used spread sheets to create batch files to rename them all back into order.

To logan:

1. I sent you a pieace of the smtp server log file as requested.

2. My Wingate is running in a VMware Virtual Machine. So, just Wingate and VMware Tools are installed.

3. There's 3.33 GB of free space in the server.

4. Event Viewer is Ok.

To Nev:

Obviously there is always a chance to re-install it.
My problem is that in my company the Internet is all blocked. According to the employees needs the sites are unlocked. So I have lots of rights granted in the WWW Proxy Server Policies which will require a big effort to be recreated.

By the way, Wingate is a fantastic software but the configuration backup is a big problem. You should develop a way to backup it in parts, then it will be possible to save, for example, Mail configurations, WWW Proxy Sever Policies and not the Bindings. So in case of a system crash the configuration of a new server will be much faster.

Sorry Nev, I think I misunderstood you !!!
My Wingate Server was configured using a registry backup and reconfiguring the bindings.
