Assumed User by Name

Hi,

I see on the client activity windows my computer name as david-xp.esteemsoft.local. I configured the assumed users option, mapping Computername : david-xp.esteemsoft.local to Users: david ting. But the configuration didn't work. Assume user by IP Address works but assume by name is more convenient.

How do I assume by name?

One way is to include on Wingate's Hosts file the DNS name of each client pc on your network and it's IP address.

There is a lot of stuff on the Internet about editing the Hosts file.

But why not WinGate allow us to assume by the computer name displayed on the client activity windows? The appearance of name instead of IP address means that the WinGate is able to resolve the IP to computer name through the ADDNS that it points to. As such, I see no problem to assume using the name.

Assuming by computer name checks the client computer against the DHCP Leases table held with WinGate, so this only works for computers that are DHCP clients of the WinGate DHCP Server.

The computer names that you are seeing in the activity tab are probably enumerated by some other means. NetBIOS or DNS.
