Lagging due to WinGate caching?

Postby davidting » Mar 25 09 10:48 pm

Hi,

I access news site through WinGate. The last news that appears was at 12pm but for those computer that access the site directly (without going through WinGate), the last news was 5:04pm.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks.

Yes, you can disable caching for specific sites, or press Shift-Reload in to force a page refresh.

Also in Wingate's cache you could reduce the page check to say '0' to have the latest instance cached.

The WinGate Help says that we can "You can always force your web browser to download the latest data by clicking Reload (Netscape) or Refresh (Internet Explorer).", but no matter how I refresh or reload, the page doesn't get updated. Could this be a bug in Wingate?

Code: Select all
Also in Wingate's cache you could reduce the page check to say '0' to have the latest instance cached.

I couldn't find this option in the Cache Properties dialog.

Thanks.

What version of WinGate are you using? Those "rechecking" options that Nev mentioned may have been deprecated, and hard coded to 0 any way?

Try pressing Ctrl + F5. This forces the client to drop it's cache for the site and adds a Pragma: No-cache to the request. The Pragma: No-cache header should prevent WinGate from serving the request out of it's cache as well.

If that doesn't work, you can always tell WinGate to simply not cache the news websites that are being effected by cache.

I am using version 6.5.2. Ctrl-F5 works on Internet Explorer but not Google Chrome.

Anyway, how to configure the cache to bypass certain site?

Thanks.

the version that deprecates those settings hasn't been released yet.

On the general tab there is a couple of fields at the bottom. these need to be set to 0 - number of days before re-checking...

Would this defeat the purpose of caching? Or would the page still be fetched from WingGate if it didn't change?

it just overrides the concept of "freshness". If the cache still holds a current version, that will still be the one sent to the client.
