force www via wireless

Postby pss2020 » May 22 09 4:49 pm

Hi

Im trying to force www or socks proxy requests through one of 3 nics on my laptop but it still seems to
choose the windows default gateway

I want a web browser (127.0.0.1:88) to use the wireless nic instead of the wired connection both connect to internet.

Ive tried forcing the metric to 0 for wireless in the networking tab - nothing happened

ive tried www service and default gateway wireless

and using socks 5 service and also gateway wireless

Nic 1: 100/100mb wired ip 192.168.1.9 gateway 192.168.1.10

Nic 2: wireless 10.222.111.254 gateway 10.222.111.1

nic 3: usb lan 1gb 192.168.0.9 gateway 192.168.0.200

service bind ip 127.0.0.1 port 88

is it possible? what i am doing wrong?

Cheers

You should be able to use the gateways tab of a proxy service to control what gateway that proxy uses to connect to the internet.

If the gateways tab of a proxy is not working, do you have any firewall, antivirus or security suites installed on the WinGate computer? These types of programs can intercept WinGate's outgoing connections and hose WinGates gateway selection in the process as the security suite will get final say as to which gateway gets used.

Also, is the Application Layer Gateway service enabled in Windows? This can also hose WinGate's gateway selection, so I recommend disabling it.

ive tried gateway tab,

yes nortons 360 v2 and nod 32 on pc

i want the other packages to use the pc as per normal... and wingate to redirect one browser to a 2nd nic (using netscape 9 at moment for testing since using firefox and ie7 for normal browsing)

regardless of the settings the requests show up in activity window and data comes down however it ignores the setting to use 2nd nic (wireless) for www access

if I stop the www service.. the browser gives unable to connect so wingate is receiving the data from 127.0.0.1 port 88

but not redirectiing to wireless but the default gateway

its XP not sure on layer service? sounds if I disable that it kill other apps using the nics directly???

I do have vmware 6.5 installed and wintcap with bmextreme which monitors data caps.. but I dont see how that could alter route as they pass through and vmware is not running..

I can force vmware to wireless nic just fine too

also if I unplug the wired cable ... leaving the other 2 nics.. wired to lan and wireless to router/net

it then works as i would of hoped but thats no good as I need wireed default route for other stuff :(

will wingate 7 solve this? perhaps a plugin similar to vwware to tap a connection straight into the adapter

or perhaps handy a option in networks tab to disable the other nics in wingate as metrix dont work.. if theyre not visible to it
it cant choose them for outbound tcp

this is what is listed in the nic info

Client for MS
symantec network security Intermediate Filter driver
VMware bridge protocol
Virtual Machine Network service
file sharing
MS tcp version6
internet protocol TCP/IP

This problem is definitely caused by intermediate filtering services or proxies that come after WinGate as this is the only way which WinGate's gateway selection can be overridden. I would disable the "symantec network security Intermediate Filter driver" from the Internet facing network adaptors. Also, if WinGate is on a virtual machine, make sure you disable outbound packet filtering on the host machine as well. WinGate 7 will not change this behaviour as the problem is with upstream software and not WinGate.
