Load Balancing

Postby qbikguest » Jun 26 09 2:52 pm

Hello this is just a simple question though, I'm trying to use WWW Proxy server in conjunction with another connection, its not fail-over but load balancing.

I tried to use the cascading option but it left me hanging, am I supposed to use another proxy server like a second wingate server?

Here's the scenario:

Internet users (browsing) >>>>>>>> WWW Proxy Server >>>>>>>> Another Machine
Internet users (other services like MSN, YM, P2P) >>>>>>>> NAT

Ideally I want to offload the browsing to another server which will enable it to perform faster. The other services will just remain on the original server.

Hi qbikguest. As your question was unlreated to the topic that it was posted in, I have split it off into new topic.

I don't think cascading is the right feature to be using for your scenario. I recommend trying out the Gateways configuration tab of your proxy instead. The Gateways tab of a proxy services lets you specify which Internet connection(s) that service should use to connect to the Internet. Although the connection schemes are for rotation and fail-over, this doesn't mean anything if you only specify a single internet connection to be used.

In the gateways tab, set the connection scheme to fail over.
Add the internet gateway that you want web browsing to go through to the list.
Click OK.

I might be wrong, but I believe that's all you will need to do to acheive your scenario.
