Postby dickson2u » Sep 04 09 5:20 pm

Hi , i am new bird here....
I had face some technical issue and need advise from expert here...

My company had use wingate as proxy server.
When user online they open IE and it will prompt up wingate, user must key in their username and passwordto get online.

However, here are the problem we facing,

windows xp is automatic update when user online, but while we use proxy server, when user not open IE , that means there notonline, then how can windows auto update?
sometime windows update need take long time download from microsoft website.and user use wingate just 5 /6 minute (incase)

any resolution bypass wingate to ensure that user can automatic windows xp update??
we do not have any WSUS solution and not try implement WSUS because of budget issue....

Thanks

Hi dickson2u, and welcome to the Qbik Forum.

You can use policies in your WWW proxy server to allow unauthenticated access to the windows update sites and any other websites that are accessed on schedule (anti-virus update sites for example). The process for doing this is pretty general across all WinGate configurations so I have included a short guide below. If you run into any problems or have any questions, don't hesitate to let the forum know.

  1. Open the GateKeeper and navigate to Services --> WWW Proxy server --> Policies
  2. Click the Add button to make a new policy
  3. Leave the General tab the way it is and go directly to the Advanced tab
  4. Select 'Specify which requests this recipient has rights for'
  5. Click 'Add Filter'
  6. Click 'Add Criterion'
  7. Select This criterion is met if HTTP URL contains then enter windowsudpate
  8. Click OK
  9. Repeat steps 7 -> 8 to allow unauthenticated access to other URLs
  10. When you are finished, click OK then Apply
