Wingate is bypassing Websense

Postby pbrimigion » Oct 06 09 3:46 am

Greetings,

We have Wingate installed as a Proxy for our Mobile clients. We also use Websense as a URL filter. Our firewall is a Cisco ASA. Normal internal http traffic (non proxy) hits the ASA which checks for http traffic. It sens http traffic to Websense for URL filtering. When we go through Wingate, however, no http traffic is sent to Websense. I'm new to Wingate so any suggestions on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

It sounds like you have installed WebSense on the same computer as WinGate. In this configuration, clients connecting through the proxy will bypass websense as you have noticed.
You will need to install WebSense on a different computer and have internet traffic directed through both servers in a chain. e.g.

Client -> WinGate -> WebSense -> Internet

or

Client -> WebSense -> WinGate -> Internet
