Block Spotify

Postby borges » Oct 28 09 1:34 am

Hello,

I am trying to block the access to spotify, but it seems that Wingate doesn't use the rules defined in the WWW service for the SSL connections. I have added the following filter: NOT HTTP URL contains spotify.com, and a similar rule to the ban list, and doesn't work.
In the activity appears the following: CONNECT: nevaesh.sto.spotify.com:443 - HTTP/1.1 200 Connection established.
Anyone has any idea? It is not an option to block the port 443 because it is used for other important things.

Thanks.

When you see the connection in the activity pane of GateKeeper does it have the two circling arrows icon (ENS) or the world on a page icon (WWW Proxy)?

If it has the arrow icon I think that mean it's not being processed by the WWW Proxy - only ENS and that's why the block is not working.

Hi,

You have the rule NOT HTTP URL contains spotify.com under the Ban List tab? In the Ban List you should only enter what you want to be blocked. I believe you end up telling WG don't block the site. Does the rule HTTP URL contains spotify.com block the site? Which version of WinGate are you using and 32 or 64 bit machine?

The connection in the activity pane has de usual word on a page icon (as you can see in the attachment). The only diference is that have the word "CONNECTION":

In the ban list I use the "HTTP URL" rule but it doesn't work. Wingate is working in a 32 bit machine.

I think the problem is that Wingate it is no able to block the SSL connections.

Hi,

What I find works is to use the 'Ban List' in the proxy [or System Policies], add the entry 'Server name contains' 'yyyy' (allow the WWW proxy to either access that ban list directly or 'System Policies' - Must also be granted, if used).
