Whitelist / Blacklist Import Feature

Postby Thredbo » Nov 12 09 1:28 pm

HI Guys,

I'm trialing Wingate to replace our current proxy setup, and I'm currently in the process of setting up the lists of sites users can access.
All default users will be denied access to the Internet bar the whitelist, and another group will have unrestricted access.

I don't see an import feature (I need to enter approx 100 sites) to make this alot easier. (Our current software allows the import of whitelists via CSV /text file)
Could this be a feature to be added as well as a blacklist import?

Also can you add an edit feature to rename entries already listed?

I'm read through the forums, and I do not want to run a reg hack import to do it. It's just plain tacky.
I need for our lower level guys to be able to do this if I'm not around.

Thanks

Chris

I think I can go "one-up" on simply importing a list to WinGate. The next major version of WinGate includes the ability to query an ODBC datasource as a policy decision. You could hook your list source (delimited text file, excell tabel, access database, etc) up to ODBC, and then have WinGate query the list source directly. Editing the list source should be a cinch for everyone involved.

Also can you add an edit feature to rename entries already listed?

This is already possible in WG6. Just double-click the list entry and the criterion options window will appear.

Best regards,
- Logan

Do you have a release date for v7?

Also can you have multiple criterion under one filter?
It only lets me have one per filter, which seems odd to me and it doesn't seem to like wildcards in there either..

Although i've been looking at this box for the last 5 hours... it could just be me :P

Release date is still unknown. Beta is just round the corner (i.e. keep your ears to the ground).

Also can you have multiple criterion under one filter?

Yes, you can. The logic of policy goes like:

Policies are OR'd (that is only one policy needs to grant access for the client to get access)
Filters are OR'd (that is only one filter needs to evaluate true to grant access)
Criterions are AND'd (that is all criterions must be true in order for the Filter to evaluate true)

For this reason, whitelists are made using multiple filters with a single criterion (grant access if it is this site, or this site, or this site...), and blacklists are made using a single filter with multiple criterions (grant access if it is not this site, and it is not this site, and it is not this site...).

To create another criterion, just click the add criterion button again after making the previous criterion and a new criterion will be made in the same filter.
If you clicked out and back in and want to add more criterions, just select the filter that you want to add a criterion to before clicking Add Criterion.

Damm... I was hoping that would be an OR'd so I could have all my site execptions under one filter :(
