Windows 7 and Wingate

Postby mkervin » Mar 25 10 3:11 am

Before I do something stupid and attempt to install Wingate AND Kaspersky on Windows 7 will they run on it? I searched the product information and I can't find any information regarding the OS they run on. I would like to go on the record and say I have been using this product since its inception and I don't want to surf anywhere without it so please tell me what I want to hear. Thank You!

AFAIK, Wingate 6.x is not working normally on Vista+. Wingate 7 does (but it's still in beta...)

I ran WinGate 6.6.4 on Windows Server 2008 R2 for quite a while without any issues, so I'd say go for it...

Before I take a chance I can use my router as my NAT and forgo my beloved Wingate.

Adrien, if you don't mind can you please tell me if the version of Wingate I have 6.6.4 Build 1338 will function correctly on our Windows 7 X64 machine. We want to bring this on line as our server but I can't have any downtime attempting to get it to work. You may answer me off board if you like? I would like to bring this machine on line over this weekend if possible. As I mentioned above I can use our router as a NAT but I would prefer to use Wingate so I can log what's going on and restrict what I need to. Thank You...

Hi

As far as I know it works fine on windows 7 x 64. There are a couple of minor issues.

1. Hosts file and LMHosts lookup don't work for DNS resolver (due to file system redirection - we've fixed this for WinGate 7).
2. Shows too many network adapters in the network tab.

Quite good, if so.

But I remember at least one post of a user who was extremely unsatisfied because of some serious incompatibilities with Vista "after so many years Vista went".

Thank you so much for the reply; I appreciate it. And I can't live without my Wingate...a Loyal user since version 1.

Adrien,

When will be the WinGate 7 be out? We've tried installing WGIC version 6.6.4 build 1338 but upong running it says that a file is missing or something to that effect and it can't run. Any help in this matter? Thanks.

Hi

Are you trying to install the WinGate client on Windows 7? That gets blocked from Vista onwards, since there are compatibility issues with the client and Vista and later.

WinGate server should install on Windows 7 though.

As for WinGate 7, that installs on Windows 7 as well, as a server, but we haven't updated the client yet for Windows 7 so if you're relying on the client, that won't get you any further.

If you'd like to try WinGate 7, send an email to support@qbik.com and we'll send you a link. We have quite a few customers and others testing it now.

Regards
