NAT connection speed decreases after several days working

Postby Alen » Jun 16 10 8:49 pm

Wingate 6.6.4, KAV, PS3.
I just mentioned, that after several days (~ a week) of continuously working NAT clients begin to get just 2-4kB/s. After Wingate machine restart we have 20kB/sec and more again.
The issue is not happening with proxy clients (or it is almost invisible as browsing works normally).

What can be the reason?

P.S. Why do we need to log into Wingate machine for Wingate to start service clients if it works as Windows service?!

I've wondered that myself, not that it's cause me any problems. Not necessary on server OS.

Cheers :)

What did you mean by the last phrase?
Did you mean in case I run Wingate on server OS and not on XP (like I do now) the problem will be solved?

Hi

I've never found a requirement to log into the host computer (WinGate machine) to get WinGate working... what happens if you don't log in?

It doesn't service clients (Proxy clients at least, I did not check for NAT clients).

I'll check today what exactly clients get when trying to open any page while Wingate is started but OS Administrator is not logged in.

I never checked exactly but it seemed as though the service just didn't start until I logged in.

I have been running Wingate (continually whatever the most current version has been over time) on one XP Pro box for several years and since I first installed Wingate on that box I have had it autologin on boot because otherwise nothing worked. It was a frustration to me at the time but I just dealt with it expecting it was just a fact of life because it wasn't a server OS. I do recall I first set that box up at least a year beore XP SP2 was released. I have not re-tested at any time since.

Later when I setup Wingate on a 2k3 server I was pleasently surprised to find it worked as expected and I could just leave it resting on the login screen and everything still worked fine.

That has been my experience, yes.

I see. Ok, thank you for the info.

Adrien, what about the main question?

P.S. And when are you going to clarify bandwidth control questions. Finally!

Yesterday I had to restart Wingate to normalize bandwidth of NAT connection!? Proxy connections work fine!

Adrien, try to reproduce the problem: what we do is just one NAT client (me ;-)) is downloading large (100+ mb) files continuously. I am using Mipony, USNDownloader, etc. for it (I tried several downloaders and I think the problem is not here), downloading ~ 16h per a day, basically I start after a working day is finished.
After restart for 4-6 days download speed is high (20+ KB/sec), then it becomes to 2-4KB/sec, then restart and again - 20+ KB/sec.

XP Pro SP3, Wingate 6.6.4, KAV, PS 3.
