Restrict HTTP access by WWW Proxy

Postby voital » Feb 03 11 4:59 am

May be a simple question, but I've spent a lot of time and haven't find the answer. I have WinGate with WWW Proxy installed and everything works fine. But client can access the internet by two differrent ways: through the proxy and directly without using proxy. How can I restrict the internet access by proxy only. And if proxy is not chosen in browser connection settings internet access should be prohibited. Did anybody such restrictions tuning?

There is a feature in WinGate called Transparent Redirection which intercepts NAT communications on a specified port and redirects that communication up to a proxy service where it can be filtered as proxy traffic. Here's a knowledgebase article that shows how to enable Transparent Redirection on the WWW Proxy server.

Another solution could be to simply block port 80 (HTTP) in the firewall, making the WWW Proxy Server the only method of browsing websites available to client computers.

Don't grant users the right to use NAT service (if you don't need it for other purposes).

P.S. For the users to be able to use NAT access to Internet they need to have correct settings of DNS and default gateway. Just don't set them up.
