NAT problem wingate 7

Postby Robdam » Apr 02 12 8:32 am

Hello Guys :)

greetings from germany (sry for my bad english ;/)

i am new with wingate, a friend asked me to configure wingate 7 Pro (7.1.0 Build 3389) the installation was fine so far.. but now i encouter a problem.

what he want to have:
basically he wants to grant his users a internet connection. he also wants to log the usage (for abuse purpose only).
everything should work like a normal router connection from home (all services accessable like MSN, skype etc.)

what i have done so far:
"server" is a win7 machine with 2 NIC´s, one internal (connected to a wireless AP) and one external (connected to a cable modem), firewalls disabled
- installed wingate ;)
- DHCP and DNS configured and working
- created a user group and a user, a credential rule for MAC-Address assuming that this mac is user XYZ, a policy that allows or reject the connection (www proxy) works also so far.. sometimes i get socket error and webpages is building slow ..
- created also a NAT policy -> clientconnect -> user in group ? -> allow/reject.. statistic looks good
- logging for www proxy works and looks great

Problem:

i assumed that with NAT enabled the user could use the internet connection just like at home via a normal router.. but for example ping fails, MSN want connect
i hope someone has some ideas :(

btw. i have also the problem that if i remove/add a user from my "access allowed" group the setting will be applied with big delay (after 30 min i just restarted wingate and then it works)

thanks in advance for your help ! :)

Hi

Ping... this should work via NAT no problem, but your cable modem - is that also a NAT? Ping should show up in WinGate as NAT: ICMP to...

Re user/group delay. What user database are you using in WinGate? If a windows-based one (e.g. including A-D), then group membership is only updated when the client logs out of windows and back in on the client.
