WGEngMon.exe will not go away

Postby mevenson » May 18 12 5:32 am

I installed Wingate 7 and it caused my system to not allow RDP access when started. I contacted the hosting provider (RACKSPACE) and had them kill the service and disable it so I could get back onto the machine via RDP. I tried to uninstall the product, but it spent several hours doing nothing, so I killed the uninstall. I decided to just manually delete everything, but the program wgengmon.exe will not delete because it is in use. I tried killing the process that started it and it just will not die. How do I get rid of this? Do you have a program that will remove all traces of WinGate from my system?

Hi

most likely WinGate's firewall blocked RDP access, especially if your adapter has a public IP address (not private). WinGate is after all a firewall.

Depending on the OS, and presuming you installed the driver, I'd really recommend not manually uninstalling.

As for WGEngMon.exe, it's just a small system tray app, there should be nothing stopping you from killing the process..? It's only started by Windows by virtue of being in the startup folder.

You will probably need to make sure the driver's not installed (sounds like it may not be already). If you need to manually uninstall it, you can find the drvinst32.exe or drvinst64.exe installers in WinGate\Drivers\Vista, and run the one corresponding to your OS (64 bit or 32 bit) with a -u command option. E.g. drvinst64.exe -u will uninstall the driver. Make sure you run as administrator.
