Wingate not passing traffic through to the internet.

Postby Dubz » Aug 10 12 5:27 pm

Hey Everyone,

Here's my setup:
Local area Connection (LAN) Corporate network (set as Internal network)
10.2.31.XXX
Wifi Tethering to my mobile phone, (set as External)
192.168.1.XX

WWW Proxy Server Service:
Port set to 3128
Binding on 127.0.0.1
Binding on Any IP on Local Area connection
Gateway: Any Gateway on Wifi connection

I Set my browser to 127.0.0.1 port 3128
I can see the request come through to Wingate in the Activity monitor but it doesnt seem to be passing the request through to the wifi connection, and end up with "internet explorer cannot display the page"

In the logs i get "Server closed connection prior to completion of transaction - terminating"

Dont know where i might have gone wrong, anybody got any suggestions?

Hi

have you tried first just connecting directly with your browser (no proxy setting) over the tethered phone?

If so, you can verify the connection works.

The other thing you could do is possibly promote the tethered connection above the LAN one by playing with the metric of the tethered virtual adapter, or the LAN one, so that the metric of the LAN is higher than the tethered connection).

Net connection confirmed working with a direct connection,

I want to be able to still utilise the LAN connection as default (for server access outlook and so on) that wont work if i promote my wifi connection above the LAN

I want to be able to still utilise the LAN connection as primary (for server access, outlook and so on) that wont work if i promote my wifi connection above the LAN

Hey mate,

Yea connection work with a direct connection,

Cant put the wifi a higher priority then the LAN because Outook and connections to our file server would not work any more.
Just wanna proxy my http traffic through my mobile.

Hi

increasing metric on LAN won't affect local subnets, only default route (internet access).

Playing with the metric works...

However, we have a few applications that the servers are not on our subnet... so they have to wait till the connection times out on the wifi connection which causes them to hang constantly or not work at all (RDP for example)

BTW this is all without using WinGate.

My ideal goal, is to have the metric as auto (LAN priority) then put the proxy details in my web browser so that all my web browsing is pointed to WinGate then onto the inernet via my wifi connection to my phone.

Also i have just found that WinGate will work ONLY when i have the wifi at a higher metric then the lan connection (manually setting it in the IP4 advance settings)

And my web browser proxy settings pointing to 127.0.0.1
