Can't uninstall Wingate

Postby osakalol » Aug 21 12 3:34 pm

I was trying out WinGate, but now I can't uninstall.

When the uninstall starts up, after I click Next, the application (hangs?) stays on taskbar, like if it was minimized, and it seems it doesn't do anything. I have tried to restart and the uninstaller does the same thing.

How can I uninstall WinGate? I fear that if I leave as it is, I will have future network problems or something like that.

I installed WinGate 7 (WinGate.exe version 7.2.7.3453)

Please help.

Hi

It's possible it's actually doing something. Did you stop the WinGate service first?

What OS is this on?

I am experiencing the same problem. My OS is 32-bit Windows Vista. When I run the uninstall problem, it hangs there for OVERNIGHT! It seems to be the drvinst32.exe process that stops working. Can anyone tell me how to remove WinGate completely from my computer?

Hi

sounds like the driver uninstaller is failing to complete.

I would suggest disabling all your network adapters (or unchecking the "WinGate Network Driver" from each one) before running the uninstall.

Thank you for your reply. As you suggested, I disabled all network adapters and rerun uninstall.exe. This time, it is the uninstall.exe instead of drvinst32.exe hangs there and consumes a lot of CPU resources. Any further suggestions? Thanks.

HI

is it possible it's cleaning up a lot of files? E.g. mail or log files?

Did you leave it for a while?

If the driver was uninstalled, then you can manually clean up as a last resort:

1. Delete registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinGateEngine
2. Delete registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software (if on 64 bit windows, it's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Qbik Software)
3. Delete folder Program files\WinGate
4. Delete folder Appdata\Qbik

Thanks for your quick reply, Adrien.

I don't think there are many log files, because it was installed only the day before.
I did leave it for a while, but nothing had changed.

Would you please let me know how to tell whether the driver was uninstalled?
What I did is to disable all network adapters and run the uninstall.exe program, as you have suggested previously. Does that uninstall the driver?

I'll try your "last resort" solution, if there are no other replies.

Many thanks

Hi

To check if the driver is installed or not, check the properties of a network adapter, if you see "WinGate Network driver" it's still installed, whether it's enabled or not.

You can possibly uninstall it from there as well if it's still there.
