Cache Issues SQL2008R2

Postby rebelldtu » Sep 07 12 10:40 pm

Hi
I have installed SQL2008R2 to maximise the HTTP cache and timeline. I have installed a seperate drive solely dedicated to the cache to optimise efficiency and made a 16GB Volume. However after some time the system becomes incredibly slow at returning web pages. If I disable the cache everything goes back to normal and pages load extremely quickly. I have tried disabling timeline first and then the cache to see if this improves anything but there is hardly a noticeable difference. (Running on a high spec server with plenty of resources) Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Cheers

Hi Paul

is this SQL server on the same computer as WinGate?

We find eventually they compete with each other for disk access and CPU, so best performance is normally achieved running the DB server on another computer.

We are actually writing another cache module that doesn't use a SQL database since the database performance seems to be not up to the task for many customers.

The database may also perform better if the number of items is reduced, which basically means running a smaller cache.
