Problem migrating from Win2003 R1 to Win2008 R2

Postby miguellagos » Sep 24 12 8:05 am

Wingate version: 6.6.4 (Build 1338)

Old server: Windows 2003 R1 64 bits with all patches applied.
New server: Windows 2008 R2 64 bits with all patches applied.

Steps:

Old server:

1) Export registry settings.
2) Export users and groups.
3) Deactivate license.
4) Stop Qbik Wingate Engine Service.
5) Close Wingate Engine Monitor.
6) Change in DHCP server (Windows server) the default gateway to the new server IP.

New server:

1) Install software.
2) Import registry settings.
3) Logon to wingate and activate license.
4) Import users and groups.

The problem is the new server stops receiving any traffic from the lan, I can't ping to it or map a drive.
I rebooted it and checked from a workstation with the ping command, when it starts ping goes alive, but after some seconds it dies again.
I stopped Qbik Wingate Engine Service, but still can't ping. Changed Qbik Wingate Engine Service to start manual and rebooted again.
This time the server accepts connections.
I started manually Qbik Wingate Engine Service, and again the server rejects any connection, I need to reboot it to restore networking.

The Window 2008 R2 firewall is disabled.

I'm running out of ideas.

Please help me!!!

Are there any other firewalls on the new server that could be blocking those incoming connections? Can you make sure that WinGate has classified your NIC's correctly? If it has classified your internal LAN NIC as 'external' then it will likely be stopping incoming connections on this NIC.

You can read more about this here:
