MS Lync and wingate

Postby ngrayson » Oct 16 12 12:49 am

Hi,

Running wingate 6.6.4. with Kaspersky plugin. I'm just wondering if a Lync conversation would be routed through this plugin.

During a conference, the audio keeps dropping in and out and I cant seem to find out why.

Cheers
I will be updateing to version 7 soon but ill health has prevented me so far.

Hi Neil

Lync uses SIP as a protocol, so shouldn't be going through the WWW proxy or KAV

SIP however is HTTP-esque, so it's possible (although unlikely, and I haven't tried it) that it may go through an HTTP proxy if the port was intercepted, but I really wouldn't expect it to work at all.

Do you see any evidence in logs that it's going through the WWW proxy?

Hope you get better soon!

Regards

Hi Guys,

I see no evidence although in truth I had not looked. I initially put this down to my ADSl line speed but a recent failure in USB modem has forced me to use an ADSL router. Directly connecting to this and Lync works just peachy.

Speratly I also notice that if I use the browser on my wingate machine which still goes via wingate I get a throughput of 3.4M but if I do the same test on a device on the green side I only get 1.5M. Admitedly the processor is only a 2.6G Athalon single core with 750m of ram but it should not have that much impact.

Thank you both for your wishes on my health and I am now in fact much better and have started my Wingate 7 build. Quad core AMD FX4100 with 4G or ram so that has plenty of horse power. I have send in some questions with a diagram to the sales@wingate.com address and asked them to forward it to you guys which I hope they do. I managed to tie myself in knots trying to get V6.6.4 working having removed the internal USB ADSL modem and now using a second NIC to the router so hoping someone can advice on that before I set up my V7 machine. I did not want to publish it on the forum.

I will try lync again and check the logs.
