problem wingate license

Postby luffywallis » Sep 11 13 10:51 pm

Hi,
We have a wingate server (v7.2) running with a valid license. unfortunately, we lost its administrator password. we decided then to install wingate on another server. everything went well, the new wingate is now running with a trial license. but when i tried to reuse (in the new server) the license used on the old wingate server, i had this error message:
Product QbikUnknown not loaded, cannot process license online
Activation of XXXXXXXXXXX failed
Of course, the old wingate server was shutdown when i tried to add the license on the new server. Do i have to desactivate the license on the old server? if yes, how to do it without console (because we lost admin password)? Thanks

Hi

"Product QbikUnknown not loaded" means it's not a WinGate license - e.g. it's a plugin license for a product that isn't installed.

You will need to deactivate the old licenses first.

You can just reset the administrator password though, if you're talking about a WinGate password.

Thanks for your quick reply Adrien;
How can i reset the administrator password? i thought that the only option to reset the administrator password was to completely install another server...

HI

for WinGAte passwords, you can just go in regedit to

32 bit windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software\WinGate\Users\WGProvider\Objects

then find the one with cn value Administrator, and delete the password field, then restart WinGate.

Hi
thanks again for your response.
Let me explain to you first the reasons we have this issue. We moved the server to another AD domain, without configuring it on Wingate. after that, we couldn't log into the wingate console with AD attribute, and the pwd of the Wingate administrator account was lost... we switched back the server to the old AD domain, but we still have the same issue.
Now, when i open regedit console, all i find under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software\WinGate\Users" is "ADProvider". Under ADProvider/Objects there are some random AD users listed there (not even the account of the admin AD we used to log on with), with just 2 fields: name & ObjectClass....

ah, ok.

Sorry I thought you must be using WinGate user database provider.

WinGate will just start up using the AD information relating to the domain the host computer is joined to.

So you should be able to log into WinGate Management as current logged on user. Are you able to connect? Even if you don't see much when you log in.

However, permissions may still be aligned to the old user SIDs from the other domain. You can reset these by deleting the permissions key from under the WinGate key in the registry.
