Reports

Postby stobby256 » Sep 17 13 7:43 am

Hi All,

Installed and working OK... trying to learn this product day by day.

One thing or am I being daft - is there any reporting available? I.e. how many blocked webpages have been accessed? And When?

Thanks

Hi Steve. You're not daft, there is no in-built high-detail reporting in WinGate. However depending on your requirements there are a few things you can do to get information about your network use.

Timeline - Allows you to visually see real-time activity on the network; primarily web page visits.
Web Access Rules - Configuring rules and monitoring their "Hit Count"s can give you an idea as to what pages are being visited.
Web Log Analyser - You can use a tool like Sawmill or Proxy Inspector to analyse the WinGate logs.

Regards
Aaron

Thanks Aaron,

Seems a bit of an ommission ? Other commercial Proxy servers that I've used have at least some basic reporting mechanism as part of the package. even just a basic "infingements over the last week" would be a start to see who is misbehaving :)

Hi Steve. Reporting is on our plan and your interest has definitely been noted.

Another that can be done as a stop gap is using SQL queries in policy to look at the Timeline Database. You could count the number of entries over the last month that have a category of, say, "Banned Sites". It's not ideal I know, but it may get you by until we have something else in place.

Thanks
Aaron
