Wingate 8 VPN

Postby stobby256 » Oct 18 13 5:05 am

As much as I try, I cannot get this to work.

I have a static IP, opened 890 on my router (even temporarily opened up all ports) played with the limited configuration on Wingate 8, but nothing will connect. I get prompted for a username and password, but what are these as i've never been given the opportunity to set one!!!

I found the userguide PDF and studied it. I then open Wingate 8 to follow it and all the screenshots look so different...

Any pointers, anyone?

Hi Steve

VPN is typically port 809, and it's TCP and UDP, so forwarding from your router will need to forward both TCP and UDP.

The VPN protocol itself doesn't cause an auth prompt. That will happen from WinGate Management when you try to log into WinGate though? When you installed WinGate, it got you to choose a user database. At that stage it gave instructions how to log in.

AD connector: member of domain admins
Windows users and groups: member of Administrators group
WinGate users and groups: "Administrator" and empty password

Thanks Adrien...

I went the server 2012 route, and set that up as the VPN server and now all is well :)
