Redirecting requests to local folder !!

Postby The4rthDimension » Nov 01 13 2:12 am

Hey

I don't know if what I'm asking for makes sense, but I'll ask any way

I'm having troubles in downloading some PS3 game update from PSN, so
when it reach about 90 % , it disconnects and I lose all downloaded
data.

So I decided to download the update into my pc after capturing the exact
url that my ps3 uses to access the update file on PSN servers, then
I'm hoping to find a way to "fool" the PS3 to download the files from my
local directory instead of the PSN servers. I installed the wingate 6.2
(already have it from 2 years ago) on my pc for this purpose, and connected ps3 to pc via crossover cable, and my pc to my dsl router on the other NIC. Now ps3 accesses internet via wingate. I set port
forwarding and every thing works perfect, and I'm able to connect to PSN
and all other services.

Is there any workaround to force my ps3, when it requests the update
files from the PSN servers, to be redirected into my local folder
? Because if wingate can't solve it, no body can , and I'll give up .

Thanks in advance mates.

Hi

if you use WinGate 8, you can do a number of things.

1. use the http cache rules to force the URL to be cached, then download it via a browser, then when the PS3 downloads it, it will be served from cache; or
2. use flow-chart policy to redirect request for a certain URL to a certain local file.

Both solutions seems good, but I think the second one is the best.

I'll purchase wingate 8 , thanks mate.

one thing - do you know if it's a https or http URL that's being downloaded?

If https, there could be some issues, since you'd need to set up and enable https inspection in order to see the actual request in order to redirect it.

At the beginning of the process of connecting to the PSN servers, my PS3 uses the port 443 (https), but after establishing connection, it uses the http port 80 to download the file for the rest of the session.

I tried to block connection to the update link , just to see if I can do anything to control it ,and to see if I'm on the right track , because I think that if I can block the URL, then maybe I will have greater chance later to redirect it, but no luck.

I created policies to ban the url requests from guests, the ban list works for sites like wingate.com for example, I mean those typed in the browser of the PS3 , but for backgroud url requests like the request for the update file, the ban list didn't work. I also added policies in many other services like FTP proxy and SOCKs , I also tried to block connecting to certain IP addresses used by PSN servers , put in vain .

HI

do you see it making requests through WinGate in the activity screen? Is it possibly not even going through WinGate?

Yes I'm monitoring the activity and history screens, and they show every tcp or udp connection ,with the port used, and the requested URLs.

But i noticed that when I disable NAT in the "extended networking" , I still have access to websites from the PS3 browser, but not to PSN servers. I'm only able to connect to PSN servers when NAT is enabled in the "extended networking".

Hi

that sounds then like the PS3 is not configured to actually use a proxy? with NAT enabled, and the WWW proxy configured to intercept port 80, you would see NAT for https (port 443), but you'd see the URL for http.
