HTTP Cache

Postby avb » Jan 02 14 11:30 pm

Hi,

I'm using wingate 8.03 and I have some problem with the working of the " http cache ".

I want to cache all web sites except www.google.fr , www.wingate.com ...
So in the cache rule properties, in "sites" tab, I add the website i don't want to cache, then i choose " apply to all content types" , then I check "do not cache" in the Rule Result.

The probleme is that, www.google.fr , www.wingate.com continue to be stored in the cache.
How can i do ?

thank you

Hi

when you say they continue to be stored, does this mean if you empty the cache, they will get re-added to the cache?

Or is it possible they are sitting in the cache already and being served from there?

Hi there. Cache rules use the fully qualified domain to match so if you specify a rule that uses http://www.google.fr but a user browses to google.fr (Without the www) then the cache rules will not match. To fully capture all traffic for domain, you need to specify all the combinations. e.g. http://www.google.fr and google.fr

Can you let me know if this is the problem or not. I tested this now with your google example and it was functioning correctly for me so let me know if you still have problems and we can investigate further.

I have still the same problem with all the combinations : www.wingate.com , http://www.wingate.com, wingate.com
The website is still stored in the cache.

Hi

bear in mind that if you have multiple cache rules, and a higher rule matches the request / response, then the lower rule (e.g. which attempts to block caching of a site) will not be applied.

Is this a possibility? If you for instance have a default rule for heuristic caching, then this may be causing your rule to not be checked - you'd need to move the rule up.

Hi there.

Can you check that what you are seeing go into the cache are not the results of other requests happening that aren't matching your rules. For instance, you may go to one site that pulls ads from another site that is not being matched by your rules. In this case the ad results may get cached.

Adrien: I have only one rule so this is not a question of priority.
Aaron : Yes, i was thinking about the possibility that the ads from another site that is not being match by the rule are stored in the cache. How can we seeing the url that are stored in the cache?

HI

to see what was added to cache, you'd need to turn on debug logging for the HTTP cache. I'd also recommend getting it to log to its own file.

Anything added should be traceable in there.

Ok Thank You. Now I understand. The cache rule work.
But I would like to know if its possible to cache ALL the website traffic including other url/ads, not only www.wingate.com for example.

In the access rules category, in my .txt file, I use *wingate.com* to allow all the web site consultation. When I try to do the same with the cache rule it doesn't work.

Thank you.
