Email notifying admin of "Microsoft Database" problem

Postby pgr » May 10 14 11:50 pm

Hi there,

I'm getting a daily email notifying me (as Wingate administrator) of the following issue:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Incident details
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last message: Timeline is configured to use a Microsoft Access database. We recommend switching to the new SQLite database format by either deleting the ODBC DSN and restarting WinGate or running WinGate Management Console.
Status: active
Plan in use: <default>

Log transcript:

5/10/2014 9:26:29 AM Timeline is configured to use a Microsoft Access database. We recommend switching to the new SQLite database format by either deleting the ODBC DSN and restarting WinGate or running WinGate Management Console.

I don't really understand this. The problem started without any intervention from me, and I don't have any real complains about the way Wingate is working, this looks like a false alarm to me...

I tried googling, I saw the Wingate help page, and looked for the correct options in Wingate. But I'm not sure of what I should really do. I'm wary of using options that warn me I'm rebuilding the entire user database from scratch when I'm satisfied with the system right now.

Can I just turn off this notification?

Or, if I should really do something, can somebody explain exactly what I should do?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

this is related to the timeline, so won't affect user database at all. It should only warn once, or perhaps once each time WinGate is started... I'd need to check.

If you go to the timeline in WinGate Management, it should lead you through what you need to do.

Regards

Ok, going into the "Timeline" it did prompt me to switch database and I said yes. Easy enough.

I can confirm that this (very small) server was being started every morning, so the daily notification was probably happening everytime the server was started.

I will assume this solved it, thank you. I'll post back only if I find the problem persists.

Thank you very much! Regards

We get this message all the time as well, but have yet to work out how to sort the problem. I have gone to the timeline module but at no time have I been told to change. Where do we delete the ODBC DSN?

Hi,

There should be a setting under HKCU\Software\QBik Software\GateKeeper\servermachinename\ModuleSettings\TimelinePanel\LocalSettings called "IsUserInformedOfSqliteSwitch". That value should be set to 1 if you've been previously prompted. If you delete that value (or set to 0) and restart the WinGate Management Console, then you should be prompted again.
