WinGate Newbie question

Postby yt2015 » Apr 24 15 5:05 am

Hi,

I am very new to Wingate and would like to setup a proxy in our network. We have got a simple network with 60 computers connected to switch ->Cisco router -> Modem -> ISP. All computers are now using Cisco router as its default gateway.

Now I would like to know if I can setup Wingate in such a way that it act only as a proxy (non-transparent proxy)?

Also could I install it on a Windows 7 PC which is having only one NIC card. Please could some one explain from the scratch on how the setup is normally done?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi

yes WinGate can run as only a WWW proxy.

It will run on Windows 7 also.

Basically what you would do is install WinGate (if you're only going to use it as an explicit - not intercepting - proxy you probably don't need to install the WinGate Network Driver).

Then you need to configure clients to use the proxy. This can be done with a group policy if you're on an Active Directory.

Regards
