Can't use port 20204 after Wingate installation

Postby tito_gate » Oct 23 15 2:48 pm

People of Wingate,

After I install and configure Wingate (latest versión) in server, using it as DHCP for the network, I'm having a trouble with a software that uses resources in several clients on the network.
This software is named Vray, and is used to render images using the resources on different machines.
After Wingate is installed, a message appears in Vray saying "Can't connect to PCxx (name of the machine) in port 20204...". Can't continue.
If I "by-pass" the server as DHCP, putting a router doing that job, everything works fine.
Must I configure something in Wingate to give permission to network clients to communicate each other in this special port?
The browsers are operating ok with the restrictions (rules) in Wingate, but I need help to keep this software working, using port 20204.
Any advice?
Thank you.

Hi

WinGate doesn't do anything magic with ports.

So if that software can't connect when your clients use WinGate for DHCP, but can when they use another DHCP server, it must be something to do with the different TCP/IP properties the clients are assigned from the different DHCP servers.

Are these clients on a different subnet to WinGate? E.g. with a router in between?

Thanks Adrien,

No. There is no router in between. A cable from server to the switch and then, the rest of the network.
The point is why to restrict communications inside the network? One computer trying to connect to another, and rejected. If I connect a router doing dhcp to the same switch, everything works fine. Go back to server and Wingate connected to switch, broken again.
I'm investigating myself, but my movements until now doesn't work.

If you have any ideas, will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

Hi

WinGate is actually physically unable to control traffic on other machines, it can only affect traffic on its own host computer.

Maybe the clients can no longer resolve each other's names?

How do they communicate do you know? Is it by broadcast or multicast?

Is the WinGate server part of that system? Does it also run this software that the others need to access? If so, it could be being firewalled.
