Win2k server and VPN

Postby nick_mcruk » Feb 26 04 1:10 pm

I have Wingate installed on a Win2000 Server. I want to be able to access the network from the internet using VPN. I have enabled the permissions in Win2k server for this, and I have set wingate to allow me to ping the machine from the internet and for it to send Network name broadcasts. From the interet, It is allowing me to enter username/password/domain, but I get no further. I presume that wingate is blocking any further traffic to the server. Not being overly familer with Win2k VPN setups, and a new user to Wingate, is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to allow the VPN to work through wingate?

Is this a PPTP VPN? If so, it should just work straight through WinGate.

Hi there

You will need to open up the appropriate port in the WinGate firewall to allow the VPN traffic. For MS VPN this is port is TCP 1723.

You can add configure(open) this port under the Port security tab in the ENS in Gatekeeper on the WinGate machine.

When configuring this port select the "Connections from the internet option". Select the redirect packet option and enter the IP address of the client machine that is using the VPN.

This should allow MS Vpn to run fine.

Hope this helps
