WG doesnt pick up changing DHCP address on outgoing NIC

Postby dataking » Mar 01 04 7:47 pm

greetings,

i'll be quick :

my outgoing NIC is assigned IP addresses through my ISP, which changes every few hgours, now wingate works fine for a while, but when the address is renewed and a new one comes, it cant see the new address in its connections list, in effecting ceeasing to function!...the only way to make it see the new address is shutting the engine down and restarting....is there some way to refresh the connection list without restarting the engine?....

thanks - any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hi there

Unfortunately there is currently no way that WinGate will be able to recognise this IP change unless you stop and start the WinGate engine.

When designed with the common scenario of static assigned IPs on routers or with interfaces with direct Internet connections this is generally never a problem.

A large amount of cases where IP addresses are dynamic are in dialup interface connections (including DSL modems) which WinGate can handle under its dialer section.

This form IP interface handling is something we will have in mind for future developement.

Thanks for the info.

for the record, i am on a 2MB cable modem link, the cable modem is connected via an ethernet interface. and unfortunately my provider has beenhaving some problems with their ip allocation pools, hence the scenerio i presented earlier.

eagerly for either of the following :

version of wingate with auto IP change sensing
or
my provider to resolve their problems!!

thanks again.

regards,
