Remote Accessing a Windows XP behind Wingate

Postby Nishad » Feb 29 04 4:28 am

I have a windows 2000 machine which I want to use as a file server.
I have setup Wingate to provide DHCP service to other Win XP machines on the Network

Internet connection is via Ethernet router plugged into a Wireless WAP. Although All machines can connect to the internet I have setup the machines to connect through Wingate on the Windows 2000 Professional.

But over the internet they all have the Same Internet IP address. How can I connect to individual machines Remotely from outside the network when they all have the same IP address.

I tried everything like Wingate VPN and remote dministration and PCanywhere. I am unable to connect to the machines. Please help.

Nishad.

If you only want to be able to access one of the machines behind WinGate, then you can do that with a port redirection. I think the port for RDP is 3389

If you wish to be able to connect to many different machines behind WinGate, then you would need to use a VPN to effectively become part of the network.

Common issues with VPN configuration are things like route configuration or MTU issues. If you need help setting up a VPN, let us know.

Hi Nishad

Have you tried WinGate VPN?

If you have WinGate already installed, you can trial WinGate VPN for 30 days through the WinGate VPN trial button at the top of Gatekeeper or selecting it on install to see if it suits your needs.

WinGate VPN needs be installed on the each end of the VPN for it to work, you can either install WinGate (VPN only version) on the remote PC (as it doesnt need all of the features of WinGate (full) or you can install the full version to connect to your current WinGate/VPN setup

Hi Nishad

Apologies for the misreading of your earlier post
So you wanting help using WinGate VPN? and want to access the XP machines behind the Windows 2000 host is this correct?

Have you completed the WinGate VPN setup?

I presume that you have configured the Win2000 machine to host a WinGate VPN and exported the configuration file to your remote machine that should also have WinGate VPN installed (as per WinGateVPN help file).

After importing the Vpn config file into WinGate on the remote machine you can then connect to the Win2000 machine and if you have configured it to allow access the rest of the XP machines on the LAN behind the WinGate? (By setting the VPN config participation to Local Network).

If you are connecting successfully what do you see in the network configuration tab in Gatekeeper on your remote PC does it show the host machine ( with XP machines behind it) ?
