Outside The Network?

Postby gory » Mar 03 04 3:27 pm

Once again, I'm hoping that someone here can be of some help.

I have a third party application that I am trying to run in our office. I have been told that in order for this application to work, the computer that it resides on needs to be "outside the network". Huh? Does this make sense to anyone? Obviously I need for this application to access the Internet, and to therefore go through WinGate. Outside of going into the WinGate client, adding this application, and giving it global access, is there anything else that I need to do?

Thanks again to everyone for all of your help.

It is hard to say without knowing why exactly this application should be outside a firewall - I think it's just because it uses a protocol, that requires additionbal firewall holes to be open. If this is the case then you need to know what particular ports this application listens on and open the holes for them. Alternatively you can use WGIC client on the machine you run this application on.

We're an insurance agency, and this application is to be used to send policies to a portal for quoting purposes. They are trying to re-invent the wheel, and in doing so, have come up with what is basically a scaled down proxy server that needs to reside on a dedicated machine. When a workstation within the office wants to send a policy to the portal, the policy is supposed to be sent through this scaled down proxy.

Does that help at all? Thanks for your help.

Just give it a try - install this proxy on Wingate machine and see if it works. If it doesn't - try installing it someplace else on the machine with WGIC client installed.
