Connection breaks down after some seconds

Postby Anila2 » Mar 12 04 6:52 am

Hi,

a Windows XP client shall connect to the Windows 2000 host. Both are using a DSL connection.

There is a short connection, and when the person, who wants to join, starts to explore the network, the connection is disconnected automatically. What can we do?

Best regards

Hi,

I am the person who wants to connect to the Windows 2000 computer. I am using a hardware router from NETGEAR and 4 single computers in a local network. One should connect the Win2k computer, but there are the problems discribed before. I do not have any firewall software running and the hardware router let data through the port 806 :-((

Port 809

Postby Anila2 » Mar 12 04 8:41 am

Ueboxx wrote, that his router opened the traffic for port 806 - but now he opened everything for port 809, and we are still having the same problems.

In my Hystory messages (I am the VPN server) I can see lot's of trials from Ueboxx:

Tunnel to node UserPC (IP address) with ID XX active and updated
UserPC has joined ServerPC
UserPC has disconnected from ServerPC

Duration: Always 0 seconds.

I hope, that somebody can help us!!!!

Thanks, Anila

Check that you have the ports properly forwarded in the router. This should be for the VPN ports as specified by the VPN machine. (Defaults to 809) This needs to be for TCP AND UDP.

Can you enable full logging for VPN on each side of the connection, then send us a copy of those log files, please ? (My email address is listed in my profile if you don't want to post them to the forum)

Looking through the logs, it all seems to be 'ok', except both sides think the connection has been closed by the other side.

Double check the router setup, make sure that it will forward the correct ports to the VPN machine. Remember - it MUST be for TCP and UDP.

Dear Pascal,

in my peer-to-peer I have the same problem! And there is no router, so I can't forward the correct port. Wingate is configured on both computers in the same way, it uses port 809.

Dear Pascal,

I still can not browse!

I tried again with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Both PCs are using a DFÜ connection for the internet, Win2000 has a DSL connection, WinXP dials in via modem.

I shutted down ZoneAlarm on both computers (and I tried this already yesterday with Ueboxx!). There is no router, and I did not modify the Wingate Configuration.

Same problem

Postby jono659 » Mar 13 04 9:20 pm

I have a guy trying to get his VPN running and he is using my working one to test. He is having the exact same problem both machines think the other closes the connection. This is also true if i try to connect to his VPN. My machine is a functioning Host/client on XP Pro cant see anything else in the logs.

Any clues

Hi Jono,

so I am glad, that I am not the only one with this problem - but on the other side, I would be happy, if I get it to work. As I answered above, I would like to try also with your machine, maybe we find something out, but as I said - I am just before starting into vaccations.

Best regards
