Can't update Wingate on client machine

Postby Adrien B. » Mar 10 04 9:39 pm

Hello,

I'd like to update Wingate on my network, but I have a big problem on one of my machines (my machine).
I had a DSL connection to internet on my computer, in parallel to the Wingate Client system. This was to be able to connect to internet directly from my computer without the need to switch on the Wingate Server.

Also, I did activate the integrated XP's Firewall on my computer, to protect my computer from worms and trojans. Everything was working well untill I decided to remove the DSL connection.

Now, when I try to update the Wingate Client software, it tells me that I have the firewall from XP which is activated... but I have no more internet connection in the network configurations...

I tried to create a new Internet connection, to activate the firewall, then to stop it, but I still can't install wingate. It still says that XP firewall is running.

Please... help ...

Hi Adrien,

So you have removed the WinXP Personal Firewall but WinGate still sees it so it won't install? If so, you'll have to edit the registry to get around it, however please make sure you know how to back up and restore the registry before you do.

Disabling MS ICS and MS Firewall in the registry:

1.) Select Start, Run, type "regedit" without the "'s and select ok.

2.) Drop down the list under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Services, and highlight the folder labeled SharedAccess. Within this folder you will have to locate a DWORD value labeled "Start".

3.) Double click on the DWORD value labeled "Start" and change the 2 into a 3.

4.) Close the registry editor and you should no longer have any problems installing WinGate.

If you have any other questions please let us know.
