Port forwarding

Postby jamieg » Mar 11 04 10:53 am

Im trying to run an application that requires port 670 to be forwarded but this application is running on the WG server, I've tried this app on a different machine but this does not run correctly. If I disable the firewall then this app works fine.

The application Im running is counter intelligence for a game call Medal of Honor Spearhead.

Also the software does function correctly about 25% of the time.

Any help would be appreciated. I hope I've given enough details.

If the software is running on the WinGate machine you shouldn't need to 'forward' the port, rather just 'allow' it in the port security table. You may also need to do this for UDP as well as TCP.

Thanks neil, But I've already done those things and this has not sorted it.

Is there a way of telling wingate that a certain IP is a trusted ip even if its remote to my network, as this would also provide my solution as if the ip is trusted then the port wont matter too much.

Also DMZ could help!!! How can I setup DMZ on wingate or with it.

You can assume an IP address is a user that you set up in WinGate, if you go to the Users tab you'll see assumed users, you can set one up in there. The trouble with that is if the connecting IP address is dynamically assigned it will be changing all the time.

Are you seeing firewall hits when the connection is not getting through?

Cheers for the info, I will give it a go.

So this is the only way to make an external IP a trusted IP, by giving the IP an assumed user name??

Yes Im seeing firewall hits but when I open the ports I've watched for a min or so the system just throws loads more ports up and still does not work.

I can send this software to a qbik member of staff to test if they so wish?

I've setup the required IP as trusted and this still does not give this IP addr. the freedom to use any of the required ports, I've actually given the userid that it uses admin rights so there is no issues there.

Yes matt there are notifications of loads of UDP port hits from the IP addr. in question which are blocked, if I then open the required port it then shows another one blocked, so far Ive got 38 UDP ports open for this software, when all that was needed according to the program maker was port 670 to be port forwarded.

In short is there any way I can ensure an external IP addr. is trusted?

Hi there

Simple way to check whether an IP address (and corresponding network interface) on the machine is trusted to go to the Options >Advanced menu and click on the Network Interfaces Tab.

This will show which are classified by WinGate to be Private/public Trusted/Untrusted

You can also edit their status here but of course you should be aware of the obvious securtiy risks changing these could have.

Im not trying to make an IP on my computer a trusted ip, but Im trying to make an external game server which is hosted elsewhere a trusted ip.

This will enable the game server to be trusted. Any Ideas how to make this external IP a trusted one??
