Symantec Small Business Edition 8.1 and Wingate Clients

Postby Nix » Mar 12 04 8:10 pm

I have a small network set up at our place of business that uses Symantec Small Business Edition 8.1 for our antivirus solution and we also use Wingate for our internet access for all of our clients. After we installed Wingate onto our clients and server, we have found that Symantec's Antivirus server will not send antivirus updates to our clients, nor will the clients send the broadcast request to the server to see if there are updates. Also, communicating with the server via the Symantec System Console (SSC) fails. We are unable to communicate with the servers or clients with Symantec only. Our Wingate clients and servers function normally for internet access. Searching through Symantec's knowledgebase yielded a document that says Symantec products do not work on Wingate networks due to the firewall settings. Another document yielded all the ports that the Symantec Antivirus uses to communicate with clients and servers. I have tried opening those ports through the Wingate server to see if the antivirus clients will broadcast to the server. So far I have not had any luck with this. Is there anyone out there that can assist in possibly allowing my Symantec clients and server talk to each other on the local area network? HAs anyone found any sort of solution short of getting rid of one solution or the other? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Hi nix....
Please would u like to tell me that.."is ur antivirus server and wingate server is on the same System"?
If so.....Then maybe the Solution i am going to tell maynot work....
yeah maynot work.....
............................
Like u tould before...."After u have installed wingate client...in the client system the Antivirus client is Unable to send message to the server"
if that so then u need to include the File that sends request to the server...
In to the Local network access Only ........
Like For example....
After i install the wingate client...my Netmeeting was not working ..and the message was "u need to restart ur system to fix this"
then i added the CON.exe (from the netmeeting folder) to the Application scope and set this to Local access only.... Thhha raaaaaaa
and may multiplayer games was not working propperly in the lan...
i added the files to the local access only and there i GO....
so u need to add all the apps that sends the Requests to the server....
or u can use the NAT based Solution...
wingate Supports the NAT....
but i think u will be fine with the wingate Client...
i will add this later

To clarify, the Antivirus server is not on the same machine as the Wingate server. Every system has both clients installed.

I shall give that a try, hopefully I can allow communication to take place between the systems. Any other help is appreciated too, thanks!
