Email server configuration

Postby kostis » Mar 14 04 11:36 pm

I have wingate 5.2.3 installed on on my PC as a server (192.168.0.1)
and the WGIC installed on another networked PC.
I can connect to the internet from both PCs.
I use OE 5 to send and receive email. I can send email from one PC to another.
I can send email to any external address. The broblem is than i can't collect
any email from my ISP. Something maybe wrong with my bindings or the names
that i use to OE. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kostis,

Take a look at the document that I have sent you by e-mail and see if it helps with your e-mail configuration.

Let us know what the results are.

Hi Warren,

i think i hit the right place, cause it seems i'm having the same prob like Kostis above, at least by trying to get incoming and/or outcoming messages from the client machine. So, i ask you if you could send me the file too. It would certainly help in some point. I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Simitar

Hi Warren,
thanks for the immediate answer. Unfortunatelly it doesn't help me much.
This is what i did. I change the port setting from 8110 to 116 on the POP3 Proxy server. I created an SMTP Proxy Server in Port 31. In General Tab i write the SMTP address and port 25 to the "Support outbound mail via ISP mail server". I add to the Incoming Mail TAB thename of my local domain.I created to the Aliases TAB the re-naming of the "external address" to my "internal".
On OE, i created an account with POP3 and SMTP servers the IP from the Wingate server.
In the Account name TAB i write myfulladdress#myisp.gr ( it was the only way to see in the history TAB of Wingate, username@myisp.gr).
And, finaly, in the Advanced TAB, i edit the Ports to 31 for SMTP and 116 for POP3.
And it doesn't work. Please, any new suggestions?

Hi Kostis,

Sorry for the delay. Had to do some work to pay the bills.

Let's go back to the begining. Try using Ports 25 and 110 as a starting point. In the Wingate POP3 Proxy Server, use 25 and in the SMTP Proxy 110. Now in your e-mail program use the same port numbers in the Advance Tab. If you have everything else correct, then you should have service.

One thing. Are you switching from external mail to internal Wingate Mail Server name? Try picking up the external mail directly in your e-mail program first; without using the Alias. If you get the mail, then you can try the Alias switch.

Also take a look at the following posting and see if this gives you some ideas: http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=1392

Let us know what happens.

Hi all,
well, finally it works. I want to thank Warren and Matt Parker who help me to do this.
I configure all the settings and everything is working fine.
I don't install SMTP Proxy and i have configured OE with two accounts (one for internal
email and one for external).I connect through WinGate to my ISP to collect and send email.
But here is my new problem :
i have one external email address and four internal.
I want every client to connect to my ISP, collect the email and store them
to a "location" that the other users can read them too. Is this possible?

Hi Kostis,

I pass. I'm sure that there are more Brilliant Wingate Minds than mine out there, that can help you with this additional configuration that you want to do.

Good Luck, Warren
