Service drop-out in Wingate 5.2.3 and Windows XP pro.

Postby ulenius » Mar 16 04 6:49 am

Hi Support!

I have now left Windows NT SP6 for Windows XP professional and Wingate 5.2.3. The system wes running at least 2 weeks in a row with Windows NT.

The server seems to work well after that I installed XP. I am using the dialup for ADSL in Windows XP. It works well as well.

MY BIG PROBLEMO is that Wingate 5.2.3 stops talking to my clients at least one time per day. If I look in Gatekeeper I found today that the DNS service had stopped??? The message was just gibblerish....
Sometimes it's enough to restart Wingate, sometimes the machine is going in slowmotion and has to be restarted.

PLEASE assist this is not a very good situation for me.....

Hi Anders

Did you upgrade from NT to XP?

Did you perform a fresh install of WinGate 5.2.3 or is it still running the same installation that was on the NT?

What sort of DNS error was being reported? (if you could transcribe the gibberish please. :-)

Let us know so we can narrow down the problem.

Hi!
I started with a fresh installation, new XP and new Wingate.

Now I have downgraded to 5.2.2 where I have had minor problems before and problems with usin MSN and web cam. Thats why I wanted to upgrade. But a total stop in all service to clients once a day is faaaar to mutch.

There are not the same messages each time. Today I did not get any message but no client had access through Wingate.
Yesterday it was gibblerich message in the message window.
The day before the DNS service was down, and I could not restart the service. I had to restart the machine.
The day before that the machine was sooooo sloooooow and no client access. Ii could not wait to see the mesage, it would have taken 1 day at least.....

Hi Anders

When the machine slows down, does the client still have access to the Internet at all? I.e can they retrieve email,FTP, etc or is it just browsing.

Do any system messages appear in GateKeeper when the services slowdown?

Also by slowing down, have you taken a look at CPU and Memory use on the machine (via the task manager) to see if this is constant or does it happen suddenly?

Let us know
