Need Help!!!

Postby xeo196 » Mar 16 04 7:27 am

Hi all, I have wingate 5.2.0 (build 885) installed on the server. When i exit from the delivery tap of the mail icon I received a message stated

"your smtp service doesn't seem to have any external binding. You need to bind to an external interface to receive email from the internet..."

I know binding the external int exposes a signicficant risk to the LAN. I have one particular email address that I want to receive. What should I do? Is there any way that I just open for that email only?

I am brand new on WinGate, please lay it down easy on me.

Thanks so much.

Andy.

You have to click 'Yes' on that pop up message if you wish to recieve email from the outside world to your locally hosted domain. Ie mydomain.com. Then under the Addresses tab in the Email properties you create 'Aliases' that map to the applicable WinGate user. Ie bob@mydomain.com maps to WG user bob. (you will see a default one created for postmaster@mydomain.com that maps to administrator that WinGate requires to function correctly). This means that with only these two aliases set up WinGate will only accept mail for bob and postmaster @ mydomain.com and nobody else. Thus it is ok, indeed required, to bind your SMTP server to the external interface.

It is good when you found the goog help.
