VPN gui only on Win XP Home edition

Postby modha » Mar 24 04 10:49 am

I have been trying to join a VPN hosted at my office. I installed the VPN GUI only client on my home PC, specifications are

Intel Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz
RAM 512 MB
Operating system : Windows XP Home edition.

I have an internal network of 3 PC's, all on static IP (range 192.168.*.*), my connection to the office is via 512K broadband. I have Sygate running as my personal firewall and I am using 602Pro Lansuite as my proxy software. The PC I have installed the VPN GUI only is installed on the gateway PC, which connects directly to the internet and not thru the proxy.I also have UltraVNC in listening mode connecting to my office , which works fine.

However everytime I install VPN, I can dial up the connection, proceed to user verification and registering on the network. However I seem to have a problem with DNS, any request for web pages ends in page not found or DNS errors. My ultraVNC connection ends up as server not found when I install VPN. This happens even when VPN engine has been switched off.
I configured the sygate firewall to allow the default TCP and UDP ports. It does not respond to the DHCP service has been disabled or left on any other settings. During the above exercise the 602Pro lansuite is always disabled.

Please help, has anybody else had the same problem? Once I uninstall VPN everything reverts to normal and works fine, I have even managed to connect to my office network using the VPN connection inbuilt in Win XP.

We have seen some cases where there are conflicts between the Qbik drivers and the SyGate drivers.

WinGate VPN has a built in firewall, so would it be possible for you to temporarily disable the SyGate firewall to see if that makes a difference ?

Refer to http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=935&highlight=sygate for one of the other topics that cover problems with Sygate.

I have tried disabling it temporarily, but that has not worked, I will try uninstalling it completely and let you know how i get along.

OK. If there is some way to save your settings, do that before uninstalling completely. (Would be useful when you wanted to reinstall it)
